The Church of Christ Student Center was constructed 50 years ago by a conglomeration of many Churches of Christ in the area. The idea for the Student Center was created by a man named Deb Smith with the intentions that it would help students and encourage them during their college years to prepare them for the world beyond. Today, the Student Center at Eastern New Mexico University provides an alternative to students who wish to be involved in an organization, but desire positive spiritual growth at the same time. The Student Center has become a meeting place for Brothers and Sisters in Christ to offer encouragement, growth, and excitement. There are two sections of the Student Center:

The Student Center is very involved in community service work and in student functions. In fact, the Church of Christ Student Center won the 1996-1997 award for Community Service. Its purpose is simply to enrich the lives of students in all areas, not just spiritually, with the goal being to send them out of college using their strengths and skills for God. |

Eastern New Mexico University enrolls approximately four to five thousand students each semester. It has four major college departments with varying degrees in each, many of them offering Masters. ENMU also has many facilities for students, including a constantly updated high-tech computer lab and Eastern’s Golden Library. Eastern has about 400 acres of which to offer these facilities to students. ENMU also facilitates ITV (Instructional Television) with several other colleges in other locations. There are also many means of financial aid for students. |

Portales in New Mexico has a population of approximately 12,000 people. It is an admittedly small town, but it is quiet and safe at the same time. Portales’ location is more or less in the center of many great places. Amarillo and Lubbock, Texas are both within two hours, and Albuquerque is about four hours. Ski resorts like Taos and Sippapu are about four hours as well. The Student Center travels to many of these places every year. Portales is in these ways a perfect place as it gives you the choice for many places to go while offering peace and quiet when you’re busy. Here is a partial map of Portales where ENMU is located. |
